Description

To me, the most striking part is the warm hearth glow and the quiet intimacy it brings to the whole scene.

ANTIQUE BELGIAN INTERIOR OIL PAINTING – WOMAN KNITTING BY THE FIREPLACE
This Antique Belgian Oil Painting draws the viewer into a wonderfully intimate Interior Genre Scene where a woman sits knitting beside the hearth. The glow of the fire, the dark surrounding interior, and the soft tonal transitions create exactly the kind of warm domestic atmosphere that makes late 19th-century Belgian painting so appealing. Rich browns, smoky greys, and muted golden highlights give this Signed Artwork a deeply atmospheric presence, while the 1899 date places it firmly within its original period character.

FRANZ DE VADDER – KNOWN BELGIAN ARTIST WITH MUSEUM PRESENCE
Franz De Vadder was a Belgian painter, etcher, and especially a respected watercolorist, born in Bruges in 1862 and associated with study under Charles Verlat and J. Van Luppen. He worked for decades in Sint-Amands on the Scheldt and is noted in Belgian art references for his refined sense of tonality and atmosphere; his work is also recorded in museum collections in Brussels and Antwerp. Although he is best known for landscapes and marine subjects, this interior scene is especially interesting because it shows that same mastery of mood applied to domestic life.

ORNATE ANTIQUE FRAME AND IMPRESSIVE DECORATIVE PRESENCE
The later ornate frame suits the painting remarkably well and gives the whole piece a strong decorative impact. Its richly carved surface, large scale, and antique finish make this Framed Wall Art ideal for Classic Interiors, Dark Academia Decor, Library Decor, and refined traditional rooms where a substantial statement piece is needed.

COLLECTIBLE BELGIAN ART FOR INTERIORS AND GIFT GIVING
This Original Artwork For Sale will appeal to admirers of Antique Paintings For Sale, Collectible Fine Art, and memorable European Fine Art with genuine name value. It is also an excellent gift for a collector, spouse, family member, or friend for a birthday, anniversary, Christmas, or housewarming.

A DISTINCTIVE ANTIQUE PIECE FOR REFINED INTERIORS
This Antique Belgian Painting stands out through its combination of a recognized artist, strong atmosphere, and impressive presentation. It works especially well as a focal point in a curated space, adding depth and character to a room. Whether placed in a living room, study, or library, this piece reflects a refined taste for historic Belgian painting and brings a sense of authenticity and cultural value to the interior.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to the most common questions about shipping, customs, packaging, authenticity, returns, and antique artwork care. If you need additional information, feel free to contact us before placing your order.

Is the frame included in the price of the painting?

The price shown in the listing refers exclusively to the artwork itself. If the painting is shown in a frame in the photos, the frame is not part of the sale and is provided to the buyer free of charge as a decorative addition. Since the frame is provided free of charge, it is not covered by any warranty, and its condition upon arrival cannot be a reason for a return, refund, or compensation. If no frame is shown in the photos, it is not included. If you prefer to receive the painting without the frame, please let me know after purchase — no discounts or price adjustments apply.

What should I do if my order arrives damaged?

If your parcel arrives damaged, please follow these steps so a postal claim can be processed properly:
    • take several clear photos of the outer box, the shipping label, the protective packaging inside, and the damaged item
    • report the damage to your local post office or carrier point within 48 hours of delivery and request the official damage report
    • have the form completed and signed by the postal employee and send me a copy within 4 days

Please keep all original packaging until the claim is fully resolved, as carriers may require additional inspection. Failure to follow these instructions or deadlines may void the claim and compensation. I will file a formal claim with the carrier to ensure the issue is resolved as quickly as possible.

How do you verify originality, authenticity, provenance, and condition of artworks?

All paintings in my shop are original, hand-painted artworks. Each piece is examined using professional knowledge of materials, techniques, age characteristics, and historical context. When available, information about the period, school, provenance, or previous ownership is included in the listing and reported accurately. Antique and vintage items may show natural signs of age such as craquelure, patina, minor imperfections, or older restorations, which are always photographed and described. Items are not restored or altered before sale; only gentle surface cleaning may be performed when necessary.

How do you package antique paintings and other fragile items for safe delivery?

All artworks and fragile vintage items are packed with great care to ensure safe delivery. Each piece is wrapped in multiple layers of bubble wrap and protective foam and placed inside a sturdy cardboard box. When possible, I reuse high-quality packaging materials to reduce waste while maintaining the highest level of rotection. Every parcel is packed to withstand long-distance international transport.

Can I request additional photos, reserve an item, receive a multi-item discount, or buy as a designer or collector?

Yes. Additional photos are available upon request so you can examine any item closely before purchasing. Reservations are possible by agreement — for a short period for new buyers and longer for returning customers. Discounts for purchasing several items at once can be discussed within reasonable limits. I also work with interior designers, decorators, and collectors on mutually beneficial terms.
